RONALD MORLEY HOOPER

He was commissioned 21 December 1915 as Second Lieutenant (on probation), gazetted 28 December 1915. He embarked from Southampton 29 July 1916, disembarking Havre the next day. He was attached to the 11th (Siege) Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery, 21 November 1916, and posted to them 7 December 1916. He attended the 3rd Army Artillery School 3 to 15 July 1917; was wounded and hospitalised 20 July 1917 and sent to England aboard Hospital Ship St George 29 July 1917. He was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and was killed in action.
Son of Jane (nee MORLEY) HOOPER of Stratford-on-Avon, Warks, and the late Rev John Henry HOOPER.
His parents married 1875 in the Hinckley, Leics, district. John died 17 January 1917 in Studley, Warks, aged 72; Jane died 13 November 1942 in Stratford-on-Avon aged 91.
Ronald was born 4 March 1878 in Dumbarton, Scotland. He attended Kingswood School, Bath, from July 1888 to June 1896, then Worcester College, Oxford. He was Maths master at Daventry Grammar School, Northants, until 1904, when he became Maths master at the Royal Masonic School, Bushey, Herts.
He has an entry in the National Probate Calendar.
On the 1881 Census, aged 3 he lived in Stirling, Scotland, with his parents and one sibling. On the 1891 Census, a scholar aged 13, he lived in Shawforth, Lancs, with his parents and two siblings. On the 1901 Census, a school master aged 23, he was a lodger in Daventry. On the 1911 Census, a secondary school master aged 33, he lived in Bushey.
