He enlisted in Brighton, Sussex, or London, 24 February 1916 in the Territorial Force for four years service in the U.K.: a salesman aged 25, 5’3″ tall, C of E, of Watford. First joined the 1/6th (Cyclist) Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment no. 2684; then transferred to the 5th (Cinque Ports) Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment no 4555. Was transferred to the East Surrey Regiment 31 July 1916 and went with them to France. He was admitted to Leicester General Hospital suffering from shell-shock and the effects of gassing from 8 September to 18 December 1916. He was stationed in England until 18 May 1918 during which time he was transferred to the Labour Corps 30 June 1917, and finally transferred back to the East Surrey Regiment 21 April 1918. Went back to France 19 May 1918, until his death at Etaples. He was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and died of wounds received in action.

His parents married 1888 in the Brentford, Middx, district. Henry died 1939 in Watford aged 74, and was buried 30 September in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Ada possibly died 1941 in the Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, district aged 72.
William was born 8 March 1890 in Harrow, Middx. He attended Harrow Boys’ School; then Beechen Grove Board School, Watford, from 28 August 1899 to 26 March 1902. He married 26 June 1916 at Christ Church, Woburn Square, London. Ella remarried 1922 in the St Pancras, London, district to Arthur Herbert ASHWELL, who died 23 December 1943 in Watford aged 60. Ella married a third time 1945 in the Watford district to Joseph Arthur MASTERS; she died 21 February 1958 in Watford aged 67, her ashes were buried 5 March in Vicarage Road Cemetery.
