ALBERT HOBBS
Remembered with honour Monchy British Cemetery: Plot I, Row G, Grave 12.
He enlisted in Reading, Berks; was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and died at 36th Field Ambulance of wounds received in action. Unfortunately, Albert’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.

Son of Henry William and Frances Ellen (nee WARE) HOBBS; husband of Alice Maria (nee HILL) HOBBS of West Croydon, Surrey.
His parents married 5 March 1882 at St Matthew’s, St Pancras, London. Frances died 1924 in Watford aged 64, and was buried 6 June in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Henry died 1929 in Watford aged 86, and was buried 12 January, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.
Albert was born 16 February 1884 in Kentish Town, Middx, and baptised 19 October 1884 at St Michael’s, Bowes Park, Middx. He attended first Bushey Board Infants’ School, Herts; then Beechen Grove Board School, Watford, from 13 April 1891 to 17 November 1896. He married 1906 in the Watford district. Alice possibly remarried either 1920 in the Newport Pagnell, Bucks, district to Frank B MASON, or 1937 in the Amersham, Bucks, district to Victor Ernest GOODERHAM in which case she died 1963 in the Wolverhampton, Staffs, district aged 79.
He has an entry in the National Probate Calendar.
On the 1891 Census, a scholar aged 7 he lived in Watford, with his parents and three siblings. On the 1901 Census, a pork butcher aged 17, he was a boarder in Bermondsey, Surrey. On the 1911 Census, an insurance agent aged 27, he lived in Chesham, Bucks, with his wife and no children.
