ARTHUR CHARLES TINWORTH

He attested for Short Service (for the Duration of the War, with the Colours and in the Army Reserve). He enlisted 2 December 1915 at Watford: a L.N.W.R. clerk aged 28, 5’4″ tall, Wesleyan, of Watford, and was posted to the Army Reserve. He was mobilised 29 September 1916 and embarked for France 2 January 1917. He disembarked at Calais, joined his unit 2 March 1917, and was killed in action. Was formerly Private 9790 Bedfordshire Regiment, and was entitled to the Victory and British War medals.

Son of Edwin or Edward and Sarah Ann (nee SPEED) TINWORTH of Watford; husband of Amy Sophia (nee HARDWICKE) TINWORTH of Watford.
His parents married 8 May 1882 at Kentish Town Parish Church, London. Edward died 22 December 1927 in Watford aged 65, and was buried 28 December in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Sarah died 1947 in Watford aged 85, and was buried 21 February, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.
Arthur was born 1887 in Bushey, Herts, and married 22 June 1910 in Watford; they had one child. He resided in Watford, and worked for the London & North Western Railway Company as a clerk in the Chief Cashier’s Office, Euston. Amy never remarried and died 17 July 1979 in Watford aged 91.
He has an entry in the National Probate Calendar.
On the 1891 Census, aged 3 he lived in Bushey, with his parents and four siblings. On the 1901 Census, aged 13 he lived in Watford, with his parents and six siblings. On the 1911 Census, a railway clerk aged 23, he still lived in Watford, with his wife and no children.
