WILLIAM GEORGE EBLING
Remembered with honour Larch Wood (Railway Cutting) Cemetery: Sp Memorial A34.
His attestation was for Short Service (Duration of the War), and he enlisted 4 August 1915 at Gidea Park, London: a telephone operator aged 19 of Watford. He went with the B.E.F. to France 2 May 1916, and was granted leave 5 to 15 August 1917. He was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and was killed in action during the Battle of the Menin Road.

Son of William and Kate (nee ALLEN) EBLING of Hertford.
His parents married 1894 in the Peterborough, Northants, district. William died 26 May 1944 in Ware, Herts, aged 76; Kate died 31 January 1951 in Hertford aged 80.
William was born 2 May 1897 in Peterborough, and attended Ley Green National School, King’s Walden, Herts, from 7 February to 19 December 1906. He was appointed Assistant Postman St Albans, Herts, September 1913, and Postman Northwood, Middx, Sorting Office June 1916. He resided in Watford.
On the 1901 Census, aged 3 he lived in Watton-at-Stone, Herts, with his parents and two siblings. On the 1911 Census, a shop assistant aged 13, he lived in Much Hadham, Herts, with his mother and five siblings.
