FREDERICK KNIGHT

He enlisted in Watford; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 30 July 1915, and was killed in action during an unsuccessful attack on Pozieres. Unfortunately, Frederick’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
There is a Death announcement for Frederick in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 29 July 1916.
Son of Amos and the late Sarah (nee CARTER) KNIGHT; husband of Florence BARNETT (formerly KNIGHT, nee DOGGETT) of Watford.
His parents married 14 August 1887 at St Mary the Virgin, Edlesborough, Bucks. Sarah died 1894 in the Leighton Buzzard, Beds, district aged 29, and was buried 13 April at St Mary’s, Edlesborough. Amos remarried 22 September 1894 at St Mary’s, Edlesborough, to Ada ROLLINGS. He died 1929 in Watford aged 61, and was buried 18 February in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Ada died 1946 in Watford aged 72, and was buried 11 February, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.
Frederick was born 15 October 1890 in Edlesborough, and baptised 10 September 1891 at St Mary’s, Edlesborough. He attended Callowland Board School, Watford, from 14 March 1899 to 14 October 1904, and married 1915 in the Watford district; they had one child. He resided in Watford. Florence remarried 1920 in the Watford district to Harold BARNETT, and died 1964 in the Watford district aged 73.
On the 1891 Census, aged 5 months he lived in Edlesborough, with his parents and two siblings. On the 1901 Census, aged 10 he lived in Watford, with his father, step-mother and six siblings. On the 1911 Census, a brewery labourer aged 20, he was a boarder in Watford.
