ARTHUR HARDY
Remembered with honour Serre Road Cemetery No. 2: Plot XXV, Row D, Grave 2.
He enlisted in Watford; was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and was presumed killed in action. Unfortunately, Arthur’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
Son of Arthur John and Elizabeth Jane (nee CREEK) HARDY; husband of Edith K (nee COLLINGS) HARDY.
His parents married 1892 in the Cambridge district. Arthur died 1920 in the Chesterton, Cambs, district aged 52, and was buried 24 February at St Paul’s, Cambridge; Elizabeth died 1954 in the Newmarket, Cambs, district aged 82.
Arthur was born c1893 in Cambridge, and baptised 17 May 1893 at St Paul’s, Cambridge. He married 1915 in the Watford district, and resided in Watford. Edith remarried 1917 in the Watford district to William TOMS, and died 1960 in the Watford district aged 68.
On the 1901 Census, aged 9 he lived in Cambridge, with his parents and no siblings. On the 1911 Census, a book shop assistant aged 18, he still lived in Cambridge, with his parents and no siblings.
