THOMAS DANIEL JOSIAH or DANIEL THOMAS JOSIAH SNARE

He enlisted in Mill Hill, Middx, 31 December 1914: a carman aged 41 of Stanmore, Middx, married, 5’6″ tall, previously with the 2nd Battalion West Kent Volunteers. He was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 12 March 1915. He served with the B.E.F. from 11 March 1915, and was reported missing, presumed killed in action.
Son of the late Robert and Harriet (nee WHITE) SNARE; husband of Alice Gertrude (nee NIGHTINGALE) SNARE.
His parents married 9 September 1862 at St Peter’s, Berkhamsted, Herts. Harriet died 13 October 1913 in Oxhey, Herts, aged 74, and was buried 16 October at St James’, Bushey, Herts; Robert died 17 September 1914 in Oxhey aged 79, and was buried 21 September, also at St James.
Daniel was born 27 September 1873 in Bushey, and baptised 26 October 1873 at St James’, Bushey. He attended Watford Grammar School from April 1884 to August 1888. He married 18 November 1898 at Sts Peter and Paul, Bromley, Kent; they had three children. He resided in Stanmore. He was declared bankrupt 1 October 1912, a draper and outfitter trading as Thomas Snare, of Great Stanmore. Alice never remarried and died 1945 in the Maidstone, Kent, district aged 68.
On the 1881 Census, [Daniel] a scholar aged 7 he lived in Bushey, with his parents and six siblings. On the 1891 Census, [Thomas] a draper’s assistant aged 19, he lived in Bromley. On the 1901 Census, [Daniel] a clothier’s manager aged 29, he still lived in Bromley, with his wife and one child. On the 1911 Census, [Thomas] a draper aged 38, he lived in Stanmore, with his wife and three children.
