LEWIS/LOUIS WILLIAM GENTLE
Remembered with honour Duisans British Cemetery: Plot III, Row M, Grave 35.
He enlisted in Watford; and was formerly Private 5508 and 32400 Suffolk Regiment. He was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and died of wounds received in action. Unfortunately, Lewis’ Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.

Son of Anna Maria (nee BRIGGS) and the late William GENTLE; husband of Minna/Mina (nee WEBB) GENTLE of Bedmond, Herts.
His parents married 10 April 1865 at St Lawrence’s, Abbot’s Langley, Herts. William died 1892 in Bedmond aged 53, and was buried 18 January at St Lawrence’s, Abbot’s Langley; Anna died 1931 in the Watford district aged 89, and was buried 16 March, also at St Lawrence.
Lewis was born 1880 in Abbot’s Langley, and baptised 16 May 1880 at St Lawrence’s, Abbot’s Langley. He married 1908 in the Camberwell, London, district; they had two children. Minna remarried 1922 in the Camberwell district to Arthur EDMENDS, and died 1967 in the Hemel Hempstead, Herts, district aged 86.
On the 1881 Census, aged 1 he lived in Bedmond, with his parents and four siblings. On the 1891 Census, aged 10 he still lived in Bedmond, with his parents and five siblings. On the 1901 Census, a groom aged 21 he still lived in Bedmond, with his widowed mother and three siblings. On the 1911 Census, a groom gardener aged 30, he still lived in Bedmond, with his wife and one child.
