EDWARD THOMAS MOBBS
Remembered with honour Arras Memorial: Bay 6.
He attested in the Territorial Force 4 years service in the U.K. at Armoury House, Finsbury Square, London, 16 December 1914: a civil engineer aged 19, 5’7″ tall, of Watford; Private 2813 3rd (Reserve) Battalion Honourable Artillery Company. He served at Home 16 December 1914 to 17 August 1915, and with the B.E.F. 18 August 1915 to 10 January 1916, embarking from Southampton. He was at 20 Casualty Clearing station from 23 December 1915 suffering from jaundice, transferred to 10 Stationary Hospital, St Omer, 26 December 1915, transferred again to 14 General Hospital, Wimereux, 28 December 1915, and finally sent to England 10 January 1916 aboard Hospital Ship St David. He served at Home again from 11 January 1916 to 28 February 1917, when he was commissioned to the East Surrey Regiment. He was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 18 August 1915, and was killed in action at Fresnoy near Oppy, shot through the head.

Son of Edward & Annie (nee BECKETT) MOBBS of Fulham, London.
His parents married 1894 at the Register Office, Leeds, Yorks. An Annie died 1941 in the Surrey S W District aged 77; an Edward of Leighton Buzzard, Beds, died 6 December 1957 aged 89.
Edward was born 7 October 1895 in Fulham, and was educated at Kent College, Canterbury, Kent, and Colfe’s Grammar School, Lewisham, London.
He has an entry in the National Probate Calendar.
On the 1901 Census, aged 5 he lived in Ightham, Kent, with his parents and no siblings. On the 1911 Census, at school aged 15 he lived in Ilford, Essex, with his parents and no siblings.
