SIDNEY ARTHUR STRATTON
Remembered with honour Wulverghem-Lindenhoek Road Military Cemetery: Plot I, Row A, Grave 14.
He enlisted in Bedford; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914 Star medals, his qualifying date being 19 September 1914, and was killed in action when shelled in trenches north-west of Wulverghem. Unfortunately, Sidney’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.

Son of Eliza (nee ENGLAND) and the late William STRATTON; husband of the late Louisa (nee KIFF) STRATTON.
His parents married 18 November 1877 at St Andrew’s, Watford. William died 1908 in Watford aged 54, and was buried 19 March in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Eliza died 1922 in Watford aged 66, and was buried 19 October, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.
Sidney was born 1880 in Watford, and baptised 23 January 1880 at St Mary’s, Watford. He married 1913 in the Watford district; they had one child. Louisa died 1914 in Watford aged 34, and was buried 10 November in Vicarage Road Cemetery. He resided in Watford.
On the 1881 Census, aged 1 he lived in Watford, with his parents and one sibling. On the 1891 Census, aged 11 he still lived in Watford, with his parents and six siblings. On the 1901 Census, he is proving elusive. On the 1911 Census, a carman aged 31, he lived in Watford, with his widowed mother and seven siblings.
