About the pillowcases

‘Across seven seas and thirteen rivers’ by Caroline Adams (Eastside Books, 1994) is a book about the first Bangladeshi people who settled in Britain in the 1930s and 40s. The drawings are of areas of London where they settled, Aldgate and Brick Lane, combined with drawings of local Muslim culture. The drawings overlap each other, to give an impression of how busy and confusing a big city like London looks like through the eyes of a foreigner.
