Born in Watford, 1942

I was born in Watford at the nursing home in King Street and went with mum to live with my grand parents in Kensington Avenue, while Dad did his bit in the army during WW11. Neighbours were the Portas family , the Lovats, the Westons, Holdoms, Church, Goodlands, and I could go on. School was Chater in Harwoods Rd. with miss Green as teacher and the formidable miss Wallace as headmistress. Up in the juniors there was Mrs. Hill, Mr. Coleman, Mr. Cunningham, Mr. Watson and Mr. Cooper. Headmaster was Mr. Keeble. In1947, we moved into the flat above the builders merchants in Watford High street, Cakebread Robey, as Dad had got himself the delivery drivers job

  • I was born in 1942 as well in Shrodells next to the football ground .I also went to Chater School but only for one year our teacher was Miss Eccells.I then went on to Holy Rood School in Addiscombe Road the headmaster was Mr Coleman. We lived in Whippendell Road between the Co-op and Queens Ave until I married in 1967. In those days I could park my car outside the house as there were no yellow lines.Opposite the house were two police houses!
