Russell’s Today

This former dower house was constructed in the eighteenth-century for the mother and unmarried sisters of the Earl of Essex. Other inhabitants of this grade II listed building have included William Copeland, former Lord Mayor of London and owner of Spode China, and the Maharaja of Baroda.

After World War II the building was bought by Hertfordshire County Council and used as a care home for the elderly. When Hertfordshire County Council no longer required the building it was converted into flats.

Please note this is a private building. There is no public access.
