  • The Oddfellows hall I remember well. When Alan Shepard was the first American in space doing a quick spin around after Yuri Gagarin did his circuits, the Yanks displayed his capsule Friendship 7 to the world by putting it on a trailer and carting it around the States then to UK. I remember sitting on those steps of the Oddfellows Hall for ages waiting for the trailer to pass. I will always remember how small and burnt this corrugated conical spinning top shaped thing as it came past and thought someone burnt that on a fire. How did a man survive in that tin can. It appeared and was gone in a second. But the memory stayed.
