St Mary's Church and Tombs

St Mary’s Church on Watford High Street is Grade I listed. It's the oldest building in the Borough of Watford, making it the primary focus of the town’s ecclesiastical history.  In 2013 Watford Borough Council was awarded a grant by the Heritage Lottery Fund towards restoring several historic tombs in the churchyard. These memorial tombs provide links with key characters that helped shape the development of the town.

You can read about the history of the church, the restoration project and the memorial tombs below. There's also a leaflet, produced as part of the tombs restoration project.
