  • My family regular routine on a Saturday was to catch the 321 bus from Croxley into Watford Market Street, proceed to the market to buy the vegetables from my fathers cousin ,Jessie Brown at BROWNS VEGETABLES, and sometimes I might be given a banana, unheard of in 1946.We then proceed to M & S down the High street ,usually to buy Mum a twin set, over the road to Dolcis for shoes for one of us, then walk back up the High street, past the shop with the coffee grinder in the window, to catch the bus home.
Sometimes on a Tuesday I believe my dad took me in to the cattle market behind the Post Office in Market Street to watch the auction of livestock, then watch them being driven down the High Street towards Bushey Arches. My first bike came from a little shop just before the Arches, Dad paid 15 shillings, a fortune in 45′
    Such memories!!!
