What I Want Is……

I want to follow the rails

On these Arches, over this valley

With the engine  and its train,

On their journey, to the station, up the line.

I want to follow these roads

That carry their motors, and people,

Roadsigns and lighting

The horizon, the Churchspire,

Peeping over the trees

In the wood and the clouds above.

Standing on the footpath,and cycleway

With white lines and surface grip,

Between sweeping bend and fence,

The low wall and grassy bank,

On the other side;

Across the road there is no path,

Just the hatchings by the side road,

With the tree on its island,

And no waiting at any time.
